"Fashion changes, but style endures." — Coco Chanel
As I mentioned, last month, The Palais Galliera Reopens with a Major Exhibition Dedicated to Gabrielle Chanel. I’d really love to see this exhibit before it closes in April (probably wishful thinking), but in the meantime, I have read quite a few articles about Mademoiselle lately:
Where Coco Chanel Spent her Time in Paris — I love following in Mademoiselle’s footsteps, especially on three successive birthdays (until 2020, of course).
Gabrielle Chanel's Signature Pieces, Explained by a Specialist — The little black dress, pants for women, pockets, sailor tops, sweaters, the tweed suit, two-toned shoes, the 2.55 bag, and of course Nº 5 — so iconic!
5 Must-Watch Films on Coco Chanel — I’ve seen them all.
The Best Hot Chocolate in Paris — #1 was Mademoiselle Chanel’s favorite.
This Instagram account will make you fall [even more] in love with Paris — Follow @raphaelmetivet for amazing close ups of Hausmannian apartment buildings and sneak peeks inside the windows.
How to Pretend You’re in Paris Tonight — “There are countless ways to invite Paris into your home. All you need is a little creativity. And perhaps a glass of Champagne.”
A must-see Audrey Hepburn Documentary is Coming Soon — December 1st, to be exact. Here’s the trailer. I’m so eager to see this!
2020 is taking it’s toll on some of my favorite Paris institutions:
Legendary Paris Bookshop Shakespeare and Company Needs Your Help — Here's How to Save It — I joined the Friends of Shakespeare and Company for 45€/year. It would be so sad to lose this cultural, history, and literary treasure.
Along the Seine, Booksellers Try to Hold Off an Unhappy Ending — The coronavirus lockdowns have taken a steep toll on Paris’ bouquinistes, whose bookstalls stretch for miles along the Seine.
Vogue’s List of 15 Books to Read at Least Once in your Lifetime — I’ve read nine of them.
Vintage Inspiration: Cult Fringes, from Birkin to Bardot — Fringe aka bangs in the US are my signature hair style.
Speaking of vintage style, have you watched The Queen’s Gambit and season 4 of The Crown on Netflix? The former is brilliant and the later is now set in the 1980’s with Margaret Thatcher and Princess Diana. If you’re a fan of the fashion, like me, you will enjoy the Brooklyn Museum’s AR exhibit of the costumes.
AKC TV — The Beagle — They are so cute!
Finally, this video. The music, the scenery, the cinematography — Breathtaking! #imnotcryingyourecrying #parismemanque
