Milwaukee Day • 414

The Lakefront, the Art Museum, Marquette, St. Joan of Arc Chapel and Gesu, the East Side, the Third Ward…

It has been exactly one month since I visited Milwaukee, but this print in our kitchen reminds me of the city I love. Bien-sûr, I love Paris (which is displayed on the opposite wall), but I was born in Milwaukee and lived there for nine years. Milwaukee will always be a place that I call Home. Here in Delafield, we are only 30 minutes away from our favorite restaurants, museums, neighborhoods, and marinas. We are staying away for now, but today I’m celebrating Milwaukee Day (414) and longing to be back.

Capture 52 - Week 15 - Tell a Story

“The wound is the place where the Light enters.” - Rumi

In times like these, so many are wounded — wounded by illness, by fear, by loneliness, by uncertainty. But there is hope and light. So many of the Capture 52 photos this week reflect the difficult state of the world. I choose to focus on the horizon…

Champagne + Gingerbread

“The year has held its ups and downs for me; I'm sure it has for you, too. I'm counting on the year ending on a note of joy (and gingerbread!) and look forward to a new year brimming with promise and peace.” - Kirby Larson (no relation!)

For the past several years, Eric and I have enjoyed a New Year’s Eve lunch at our favorite French restaurant, Lake Park Bistro. We linger over Champagne and coffee and return home before the craziness of NYE ensues.

The pastry chefs at Lake Park created this beautiful gingerbread Eiffel Tower.

What beautiful details — the flower cart, the croissants, the sugar glass windows, the exquisite piping! Read more about it here.

Doors Open Milwaukee 2019

“Well, I'm a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers were coming here as early as the late 1600s to trade with the Native Americans… Actually, it's pronounced mill-e-wah-que which is Algonquin for the good land." - Alice Cooper, Wayne’s World

Grand Ave. Club - Doors Open MKE

This year, during Doors Open Milwaukee, we stayed a bit off the beaten path since we hit most of the major attractions last year. See photos from last year in gallery below.
